The Albury Racecourse is hosting its highly anticipated Commercial Club Albury Gold Cup Carnival at the moment, which draws in thousands of spectators and punters for the fantastic racing on the track, but just as importantly the fantastic atmosphere the Carnival produces.
The Carnival is regarded as one of the nation’s most elite country racing events, and located in such a beautiful part of Australia, draws crowds from near and far to take part in the fun.

The Carnival is regarded as one of the nation’s most elite country racing events.

Having won the ‘Most Popular Country Feature Racemeeting’ five times; 2003, 2004, 2006, 2008 and 2009 – the popularity of the event cannot be disputed.

Starting on Thursday the 25th of March, the Carnival culminates this afternoon with the Juicy Cow – Pura Milk Benchmark 70 Handicap (1175m), which will see 19 starters.

Taken just as seriously as the action on the track, the Myer fashions on the field is another prolific event in the carnival; and this year there are three great divisions.

The MYER Millinery Award, the MYER Man of the Day and the MYER Lady of the Day are all awarded based on originality and appropriateness for the day’s events, and always provides a lot of fun and entertainment among the spectators.
The major prize for 2010 is three nights’ accommodation in the Hayman Island for two. Valued at $3,800 – the Fashions on the Field should certainly be taken seriously!

If the trip is too far for you this year, the Carnival will certainly be taking place next year, or to feel like you are at the track – place a wager on the last of the races which take place today and head to SportsBet now!

Each year the Albury Racing Club gears up to host its most prolific horse race of the year, the Albury Gold Cup (2000m), and the exciting race is kicking off at around 4.20pm today!

With a prize purse of $170,000, the 2010 Albury Gold Cup headlines the highly anticipated Commercial Club Albury Gold Cup Day, and will see 15 starters this afternoon.

With three horses to have been scratched from the original line up, the David Hayes-trained Growl could be the strongest contender. Having won the Group 3 Hobart Cup (2200m) in February, the gelding lacked form in the more recent Australasian Cup (2000), but is always strong over the staying distance.

The David Hayes-trained Growl could be the strongest contender.

Mr Sunset, trained by Brett Cavanough, is another strong contender having place in all of his last three starts.

Bearing the brunt of the outside barrier, Even Adam, trained by Wayne Nichols has placed in two of his last three run outs. However the gelding has not proved himself over the longer distance, and will most likely struggle with the disadvantages associated with the outside barrier.

There are nine fantastic races taking place today at the Albury Racecourse, with the Albury Gold Cup the seventh of the day, and to check out the latest odds on the events just head to SportsBet now!
